Eden Mill celebrates key milestone: Taking ownership

Eden Mill exchanges keys with The University of St Andrews

We're thrilled to share that the team at Eden Mill, have achieved a significant milestone in the extensive multi-million-pound refurbishment of our new distillery and visitor centre situated on the Eden Estuary. With the completion of the exterior renovation, we have officially taken possession of the building from the University of St Andrews, in a special ceremony to commemorate this momentous occasion.

The home of Eden Mill Distillery

Our distillery, located at the University's Eden Campus in Guardbridge, has been undergoing renovation since early last year. Once the final stages of the refurbishment are finished, this picturesque site will serve as the home of Eden Mill Distillery, where we'll produce premium single malt whiskies and craft gins.

In addition to our distillery, we're excited to introduce a remarkable gin and whisky visitor experience open to the public. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the spirit-making process and witness first hand how we craft our unique products. Alongside the tours, guests can also browse our retail store and relax in the café, which offers a stunning view of the beautiful Eden Estuary.

Stella Morse, Executive Chair at Eden Mill, expressed her enthusiasm, stating:

"This new home is where we will continue producing our contemporary Scottish gins and restart distillation of our premium single Malt Scotch Whiskies, which will be laid down to mature over the coming years. Set to become one of Scotland's iconic distilleries, it will also be a major St Andrews landmark and a Scottish tourist attraction, sitting at the mouth of the River Eden, with views across to the spires and fairways of St Andrews, a town globally renowned as the 'Home of Golf' and famed for its heritage and historic university."

Geoff Morris, Director of the University of St Andrews Eden Campus, expressed his delight at Eden Mill's return to Eden Campus and their plans to establish a world-class distillery and visitor centre. He highlighted the positive impact Eden Mill will have, bringing new skills and creating local jobs. He shared,

"Apart from the high-quality products, we are especially pleased that the company will bring new skills and create local jobs. We will all raise a glass to that!"

Commitment to sustainability is top priority

We aim to be carbon neutral by utilizing sustainable building materials. Once operational, we will source all our electricity from renewable sources, including the University of St Andrews' solar farm. Furthermore, we will capture the CO2 produced during the fermentation process for later use by the University.

Geoff Morris further emphasized the aim for Eden Campus to become carbon neutral in this decade and the importance of partnering with businesses that share this vision. He stated,

"Our aim for Eden Campus is to become carbon neutral in this decade and we are keen to bring businesses here that share this vision. We will be working with Eden Mill and all our tenants to drive down carbon emissions."

Designed by Opfer Logan, an architecture firm based in Glasgow, our distillery represents a unique space dedicated to sustainable business practices and research.

We are excited for it's opening in 2024

Rennie Donaldson, Chief Operating Officer at Eden Mill, added,

"The new facility is a fantastic opportunity to revolutionize how we produce our gin and whisky and will incorporate as many environmentally friendly features as possible. We are committed to working with local contractors and specialists on this renovation project, and we can't wait to open a space that's versatile, acts as a community hub, and practices sustainable distilling methods."

Raise a glass with us and let's toast to a future filled with exceptional spirits, shared moments, and sustainable practices!

The Guard Bridge is the New Blended Malt Whisky from Eden Mill - a unique blend of aged single malts including our own Eden Mill St Andrews single malt, expertly selected and married by our Head Distiller, Scott Ferguson.

The name is inspired by the original 15th century six-arched Guard Bridge that connected St Andrews with its old trading port of Guardbridge. Symbolically, a bridge is a connection between one thing and another - by bringing different single malts together, we have created a Blended Malt Scotch Whisky that seamlessly combines the sweet, grassy and floral profile of the Lowlands with the robust, spicy and fruity flavors found in Highland whiskies.

The Guard Bridge joins the North with the South and our Past with our Present.
